Bill Brady, the Republican gubernatorial front-runner in Illinois, proposed changing the state constitution to ban same-sex marriages on Wednesday.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times,the proposal would prohibit same-sex marriages and civil unions. The state senator from Bloomington proposed the measure as part of a package of ideas about taxes, legislative term limits and the redistricting process.
"I'm trying to give the government back to the people," said Brady when asked what the proposals say about him as a gubernatorial candidate, according to the Sun-Times.
