Outspoken actor Sean Penn, who last year won an Academy Award for best actor in Milk, lashed out at critics who have called his trip to Haiti to provide relief efforts a ploy to distract attention from his divorce from actress Robin Wright Penn.

In a taped interview with Lara Logan for CBS Sunday Morning, scheduled to air this weekend, Penn states, “Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah.” But he quickly adds, “"I guess I've been so away from it all and our tent camp in Haiti that I haven't had an awful lot of time to pay attention to them."

Penn has made two trips to Haiti since an earthquake devastated the country in January.
