Ted Haggard, the disgraced former pastor of New Life Church, and his wife Gayle formally incorporated their new in-home church Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
According to The Colorado Springs Gazette, the new church, called the St. James, uses the home address of the Haggards on Old Ranch Road, and serves accounting purposes for the time being.
“Ted Haggard said Tuesday that St. James was incorporated ‘to keep the accounting in order’ of the paid talks they’ve given for about a year and a half at evangelical churches across the country,” reported the Gazette. “The Haggards incur out-of-pocket expenses while on the road, so St. James is a way to be reimbursed for those costs in an orderly manner, he said.”
Haggard did not rule out the possibility that the St. James might become a membership church one day.
The former New Life Church pastor was forced from his position in 2006 after he admitted to oral sex solicitation and purchasing crystal meth from a male prostitute.
