The U.S. Senate on Friday confirmed lesbian federal prosecutor Laura Duffy as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California in San Diego, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Duffy, who was nominated by the president in February, has worked in the U.S. attorney’s office in San Diego since 1997, serving as assistant U.S. attorney in the narcotic enforcement section and as deputy chief of the general crimes section. She worked for the Justice Department in Washington, D.C., for four years prior to that.
“In her 17 years as a federal prosecutor, she has distinguished herself battling the drug cartels along the U.S. border,” Sen. Barbara Boxer said in a statement. “She will be an outstanding U.S. attorney for the people of San Diego and Imperial counties.”
