A majority of Iowa voters support gay marriage, according to a survey released by KCCI News in Des Moines. Fifty-three percent of voters supported gay marriage, while 41% opposed same-sex nuptials.
"Iowans want their elected officials to focus on issues like jobs and education ... rather than focusing on divisive issues that are going to pit neighbor against neighbor," said Justin Uebelhor, a member of One Iowa, a gay rights group.
Iowa voters in the survey also weighed in on the legalization of marijuana. According to the poll, 62% of Iowans support legalizing marijuana.
