A transgender woman running for superior court judge in Northern California will make history as the first trans trial court judge in the United States if she wins.
Victoria Kolakowski, running for Alameda County superior court judge, would also be the first openly LGBT superior court judge and first openly LGBT person elected in Alameda County, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Kolakowski will face former district attorney John Creighton in the runoff election November 2. She led him by 13 percentage points, but did not win a majority of the vote, leading to the runoff.
While Kolakowski is excited about making history, she also points to her qualifications. She has experience as both "an administrative law judge and attorney," according to her campaign website.
