Jury Selection Scheduled in King Murder Trial

More than two years after 15-year-old Lawrence King was shot to death in an Oxnard, Calif., classroom, jury selection may soon begin in the murder trial of Brandon McInerney after a defense motion to disqualify the judge handling the case was denied.

Defense attorney Scott Wippert had argued that Ventura County superior court judge Charles Campbell was biased in favor of the prosecution in the case against McInerney, who has been charged as an adult. A San Luis Obispo County judge denied the motion, San Jose's Mercury News reports.  

King was shot at E.O. Green Junior High School in 2008 in front of a classroom full of students. He was under the court's guardianship at the time of the shooting and was living at Casa Pacifica, a shelter for abused and neglected children. 

Judge Campbell has scheduled jury selection to begin Wednesday, though prosecutor Maeve Fox told the court she had a scheduling conflict, the newspaper reported.
