Discount designer website Gilt Groupe has come under fire for partnering with Target in the days following the company’s donation to a political action committee supporting antigay Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.
The website is pre-selling some of Target’s designer collaborations, leading to an outcry of anger on Gilt Groupe’s Facebook page.
Gilt’s CEO Susan Lyne responded, saying, “We consider ourselves lucky to work in an industry that flourishes precisely because it embraces diversity and change.” But the statement, which you can read in its entirety here, seemed to just fuel more anger.
On Friday, Target was dropped from the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Buying for Equality Guide. In previous years the company had a 100% rating on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index.
