Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado, the first openly gay man elected to Congress as a freshman, ranked seventh on a review of the 50 wealthiest U.S. lawmakers.
An annual survey from The Hill places Polis, an Internet entrepreneur and philanthropist, between Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia and Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida. Sen. John Kerry topped this year’s list, with a minimum net worth of $188.6 million at the end of 2009, an increase of $20 million since 2008.
The Capitol Hill publication reports, “The 50 wealthiest lawmakers were worth almost $1.4 billion in 2009, about $85.1 million more than 12 months earlier, according to The Hill’s annual review of lawmakers’ financial disclosure forms.”
