Catholic leaders in Minnesota are launching a campaign to ban marriage
equality because "traditional marriage is under attack," wrote local bishop John Quinn, according to the Associated Press.
Quinn (pictured) wrote in the diocese's monthly newspaper, The Courier, that he and other Catholics would take action against marriage equality. Churchgoers will receive a DVD explaining how legalizing marriage equality would effect Minnesotans' lives.
Quinn also asked Catholics to contact their state legislators, but local politicians told the Winona Daily News they were more focused on the state's budget crisis at the moment. Even Rep. Steve Drazkowski, who once introduced a bill to amend the state's constitution to define marriage as a heterosexual union, said, "The pressing issue should be taking care of the $5.6 billion [budget deficit]."
