While appearing on AC360, Facebook gay basher Clint McCance resigned his position as a school board member for the Midland school district in Arkansas.
McCance gave up his position while speaking to CNN host Anderson Cooper. McCance caused a national furor this week when it was reported that he posted on Facebook that gays should kill themselves; he also called gay people "queers" and "fags" and said they had AIDS.
"Clint McCance's decision to resign from the school board is a step forward for the community he represents. We are hopeful the wounds that were inflicted will soon be healed," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese in a press release. "What remains troubling is that Mr. McCance focused his regret on particular word choices not the animus behind those words. We hope he will take this time to reflect not only on the language he used but on what he can do to make the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people better."
