Gayle King invites her close friend Brad Lamm on her show to talk about the news the Obama administration will stop defending DOMA in court and what it’s going to take for people to come around on the issue of gay rights.
“I think it’s closed minded and I just have no tolerance for it,” King says of people who are homophobic. “… It boggles my mind that in the year 2011 this is still an issue.”
Lamm, who married his partner Scott Sanders in 2008 — King read a passage at their wedding — says gay men who are closeted need to come out if they want things to improve. He and King field calls from gay rights supporters, opponents and a pastor who says she’s afraid to come out because she’ll lose her job.
