Former Marine Michael Griffin, who admitted killing Indiana University professor Don Belton in 2009, was found guilty of murder.
During the trial, Griffin told the jury he had stabbed Belton, an assistant English professor, 22 times with a knife two days after the men had a sexual encounter that Griffin claims was not consensual. According to Griffin, he confronted Belton two days after the alleged assault and killed him in a rage.
After 12 hours of deliberations, Monroe County jurors found the slaying to be intentional and not committed in the heat of anger.
Griffin faces a sentence of 45 to 65 years in prison.
