A Brooklyn woman gave birth to her son in the back of a livery cab with her partner last week in Manhattan's Theater District.
The Irish Voice reports on Aoibheann Sweeney, who gave birth in the car at 51st Street and Seventh Avenue while she and Inez Murray tried to reach the hospital. Murray had been on the phone with 911, but help did not arrive until moments after Finn Murray-Sweeney was born, and a crowd of happy onlookers had already assembled.
“While the EMT team was looking after her partner in the back seat of the cab, Murray climbed out of the black car, walked over to their cab driver Juan Hernandez and inhaled a long drag of his cigarette,” reports the Voice.
Members of the New York City police department who had helped the mothers later brought a toy NYPD car and T-shirt to the hospital for the baby.
