' Lesson From Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor says that the senior gay character played Christopher Plummer in their new film Beginners is a "shining example" of what it can be like to come out.
In the gentle, surprising new comedy-drama, which is currently showing in select theaters across the United States, McGregor stars as Oliver, the son of a 75-year-old father who comes out as gay following the death of his wife. Asked if he has advice for people of a certain age who are contemplating coming out, McGregor is frank, insisting that it's none of his business, that people are in or out of the closet for their own reasons. However, he thinks that watching Plummer's character become so happy and embrace being gay with such gusto should be an example for anyone making such a monumental decision.
The 40-year-old actor, who has played gay or bisexual characters in a number of films including Todd Haynes's glam musical Velvet Goldmine and last year's under-appreciated comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, also says he's felt supported by the gay community throughout his career and he likes it very much.
