As widely expected, Mitt Romney won a decisive victory in the Republican presidential caucus in Nevada Saturday.

With 45% of precincts in, the Associated Press reported that Romney had 43% of the vote, followed by Newt Gingrich with 26%, Ron Paul with 18%, and Rick Santorum with 13%. AP declared Romney the winner. Nevada’s is the first caucus or primary to be held in a Western state this election season. The state’s 28 delegates to the nominating convention are awarded to candidates on a proportional basis.

The Washington Post notes that the victory confirms Romney’s status as front-runner and indicates that conservatives have yet to unite behind either Gingrich or Santorum as an alternative. Read the Post’s analysis here.
