Separating fact from fiction on April 1 is a tough task, but The Advocate combed through tweets and news alerts to find eight headlines designed to throw reporters off their game on April Fools' Day. From Mariah Carey going into premature labor to news the producers of The King's Speech had shut down QueerClick.com, check them out on the following pages.
"Barney Frank, the first openly gay member of Congress has resigned his post in the 112th Congress, following President Barack Obama's appointment to the post of Treasury Secretary. (With the elections of residents Buchanan and Lincoln aside) Frank will hold the highest position ever held by a gay man in the government, trumping John Berry, head of the Office of Personnel Management." -- Blog entry from Page One News Media's Mike Rogers
Norah Walker, Texas Ranger: "Kickin' Butt and Cookin' Quiche" -- ABC recommends a spin-off for Brothers & Sisters star Sally Field
After posting a story about a gay-porn set featured prominently in the Oscar-winning film The King's Speech,QueerClick.com editors say producers of the film have sued them for "irreparable harm caused to the film and producers' reputations." In a blog post, editors for the site say they "eventually agreed to settle for a punitive amount of $200,000 and all rights to QueerClick.com, its sub blogs and material holdings. So it is with a heavy heart that we must announce that QueerClick.com will cease operations on April 17th."
"So sad to hear about Whitney Houston. Thanks for sharing Kevin. True she's a finally at rest." -- Tweet from former Log Cabin Republicans chief Rich Tafel
Radio and TV host Nick Cannon cancels his segment with Perez Hilton because his wife, Mariah Carey, has gone into labor with twins. Perez posts about it, AOL picks up on it, and Cannon took to Twitter an hour later to say he just pulled off the "best April Fools' prank on my radio show ... got to take most of the morning off."
Anderson Cooper tweeted that he and most of his staff called in sick. Moments later, he tweeted that he's working anyway and wants people to send in their ideas for an April Fools' prank.
What three famous actors are coming out in a press conference at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Monday? Gawker won't say, but they note that the three men will be starring in a new movie called The Shocker.
A company called Donr is touting a new social app is making it easier for lesbians to find sperm donors. The app not only lets women find donors who are nearby, it enables them to readily access information on their potential child's potential father's education, hobbies, health, and more. A search of the iTunes store turns up no such app, nor does a search on Google.
