Not even a hamlet.

Yes! You name it we've done it -- helped each other through good times and bad, surgeries, births, deaths, helped each other find jobs, raised money for medical needs, taken care of each other's children, celebrated and been angry together, acted up and fought back together, collaborated artistically and romantically, gotten together, broken up, and remained friends. My life would be a barren place without the men and women who were not born to be, but chose to be, my family.

If you, like, READ the article on which the question is based, it might make more sense.

A village of idiots.

I live in the heart of the Bible Belt. I'm in a "red" state that's surrounded by many other red states. Nope...not too many villagers here.

Between bio and chosen family...we all take care of one another!

I know this is an allusion to Hillary's book, but I no idea wha the F the question means.

I have no idea what this question even means. What were you folks smoking when you came up with it?

just our kid, my partner, and me--we like it that way

My son lives with my partner and I while he is attending collage in New York City. My daughter lives with my ex-wife and her African American pertner while she is attending college in Northern Virginia. Last year we all attended my sisters wedding along with my extended family as well as my ex-wifes extended family. We have also gone on vacation together. Everyone is very supportive. We all come from our own unique situations but as long as it revolves around loving relationships it is the right situation

My biological family is a village of HATE!!
Reuben
Yes, my biological family is a village of fundamentalists and haters.

I'm unsure of what this question is asking...if you're asking if my family is a village of spreading love and respect for LGBT people, then yes we are a village. By family I mean all my friends with a positive attitude. Unfortunately, my real family (parents, siblings) are all religious fundamentalists and the hate seems to increase every year that I am alive.

No, my family is not a village, if by what you mean by family is the biological one. I have by extension a growing number of people I love equally or moreso than my actual family because they have stuck by me and given me something better than money or inhertiances: their emotional support. (Before anyone out there laughs at that as not being true, consider how many of your family or friends will give love & emotional support no matter what. I would bet with most people that number is small. ) My friend from Louisville, Larry, is just such a person, among others, who has given me unconditional love and warmth and I am very lucky to know him.

Give me a break with this village stuff.

I have no idea what this question even means. We do not live in "a village", but rather have a home in the suburbs, complete with running water, and even air conditioning! Where do the people at The Advocate come up with these inanae questions?
Anonymous
no. My family is a family. My friends are my friends. A village is a village. A city is a city and a rose is still a rose.
Mark in Tampa
Definitely. I babysit my ex-wife's kid. My partner and I -- and sometimes his mom -- spend holidays with with my ex and her husband's family, or with our extended "family" of friends. My family of origin lives far away, but all in one place, and we're all there for one another. My partner's family is scattered all over creation, but when we come together for a big event, it's special. We're so lucky.

My family is not a village but a proud deer leaping through the forest.

We use the village and we are a village, too. Our oldest son has special needs, so his teachers and caregivers have always been like extended family, not just teachers. Our younger son brings home friends who aren't getting along with their families, who need a peaceful place to stay for a few weeks. We are always a safe and welcoming home, day or night - food, bed, shower, listening adults who don't judge. Laughter. We've hosted foreign exchange students, been den leaders in scouts, work with youth in Gay-Straight Alliances. If we're not about being a village and helping raise all kids, then what's it all about?
Mario
I dont have a family I just have me, myself, and I. Ever since I came out and moved away as a teenager it has become clear to me that the only person I can depend on in this screwed up world is myself. I cant even imagine what it would be like to have a "family".
Tom Brown
I have a large network of gay friends and no spouse or children. Do I and my friends constitute a village? I would have to think about that one.
