Showtime slate includes gay director, lesbian moms

Showtime has announced seven new original movies that will go into production this spring, including a film about a lesbian couple becoming parents and a new film from an out writer-director. Rachel Ward, Bernadette Peters, and Jonathan Silverman will star in Bobbie Girls, about a lesbian couple who adopt their young nephew after the death of his parents. Gay playwright-turned-filmmaker Del Shores (the upcoming Sordid Lives) will write and direct The Wlde Girls, starring Olivia Newton-John and her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, about a young girl whose show business aspirations raise past issues for her mother, a veteran performer. Also on the slate are biopics on Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, JFK mistress Judith Campbell Exner, and Pullman porter strike organizer A. Phillip Randolph; Off Season, the directorial debut of actor Bruce Davison (Longtime Companion); and I Was a Teenage Faust, a comedy about a teen who makes a bargain with the devil.
