Glenn Hughes, one of the original members of the popular and homoerotic disco group the Village People, died March 4 at the age of 50 after a long illness. The group featured singers made up as popular masculine archetypescowboy, Indian, construction worker, policeman, soldierand scored many hits in the 70s, including Macho Man, In the Navy, and YMCA. Hughes was known for his leather-and-chain outfits, handlebar moustache, and deep voice, and he appeared with his bandmates in the 1980 film Cant Stop the Music. Upon his request, Hughes was buried in his leatherman outfit.
