Playbill.com reports that openly gay actor-comedian Scott Thompson (The Kids in the Hall, Providence) was scheduled to open his new one-man show, The Lowest Show on Earth, in New York City on September 27, but the run has now been canceled. Producers had already delayed the original September 19 opening, but they have now shut down the entire show due to "a variety of reasons, all related to the [September 11] event." The show, written by Thompson and his frequent collaborator, Paul Bellini, is, according to production notes, about "what happens when people don't merely give in to their 'lowness' but revel in it and even indeed succeed because of it.... Thompson's characters make no apologies, but in an era where politics, religion, medicine, and the media have all but squandered their credibility, why should they?"
