AFI Fest 2001 kicks off

The annual AFI Fest launches Thursday in Los Angeles, presenting more than 100 films from around the world through November 11. Among films of interest for GLBT audiences are Peter Sheridan's Irish drama Borstal Boy, starring Shawn Hatosy; Alejandro Agresti's One Night With Sabrina Love; a documentary look at a Warhol "superstar," Vincent Fremont and Shely Dunn Fremont's Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story; Maryse Sistach's Violet Perfume, Nobody Hears You, a tale of two girls' friendship; gay Cuban émigré Juan Carlos Zaldivar's personal documentary 90 Miles; the gay favorite The Wedding Banquet, screening as part of a tribute to the career of director Ang Lee; and the pre-Code Barbara Stanwyck melodrama Ten Cents a Dance.
