After NBC programmed its The Matthew Shepard Story movie opposite the broadcast premiere of HBO's The Laramie Project, the cable network has announced that it will change the date of its film so that the two will not be competing head-to-head. HBO announced Monday that it will move the premiere of The Laramie Project to Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, while NBC has confirmed March 16 as the air date for The Matthew Shepard Story.

The Laramie Project is a film version of the play by Mois├ęs Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre project and features interviews with citizens of Laramie discussing the aftermath of the brutal 1998 murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard, while The Matthew Shepard Story features Stockard Channing and Sam Waterston as Shepard's parents.
