Cockettes doc honored at Comedy Arts Festival

Bill Weber and David Weissman's The Cockettes, about the famed 1970s San Francisco theater group, was named Best Documentary at the 2002 U.S. Comedy Art Festival in Aspen, Colo., reports indieWIRE.com. The film will be released in North America later this year by Strand Releasing. The festival's Best Feature prize went to Claire Kilner's Janice Beard: 45 Words Per Minute, and Sarah Sugarman received Best Screenplay for Very Annie Mary. Actor-writer-director Jeff Daniels took the Audience Award for Best Feature for his film Super Sucker. The festival also honored Whoopi Goldberg with the AFI Award, and out entertainer Lily Tomlin was recognized with a career tribute.
