BBC News reports that Elton John has rerecorded his single "Your Song" with opera star Alessandro Safina for Sport Relief. The song was recorded in April in New York and will be released in the United Kingdom on July 1. "I've chosen to rerecord 'Your Song' for Sport Relief as I think this version with Alessandro Safina fits perfectly," says John. "It is inspiring that sport has the power to change lives. As a huge sports fan, I know the power and allure of sport. People like me, who live for music and sport, can use their passion to help make real changes to the lives of others." Sport Relief is a joint venture between BBC Sport and Comic Relief to raise money to help children and young people in the United Kingdom and around the world.

In 2001, the film Moulin Rouge included a cover version of "Your Song" performed by Ewan McGregor and Safina.
