Paul Schrader, who once put Richard Gere indelibly into gay men's minds as the title character in American Gigolo, has written a sequel of sorts, revisiting Gigolo's lead character as he heads into his 50s. Schrader's new script, The Walker, will likely star Kevin Kline, reports Daily Variety. And how does Schrader envision his lady-killer character? "He's a society walker, he's homosexual and lives in D.C., and his gifts are social rather than sexual," Schrader tells the trade paper. "I was fascinated with the idea of that guy in his mid 50s, just what became of the American gigolo, what did he evolve to? Most of the drama involves him and his three women friends, one in her 50s, one 60ish, and another in her 70s. He takes them to operas and art openings so their husbands don't have to. I figure I can really have my pick of the orchard because actresses of those ages aren't getting offered a lot." Schrader and his agents are now seeking financing for the film.
