Variety reports that Showtime will adapt Leroy Aarons's book Prayers for Bobby, which explores the true story of a gay young adult who committed suicide and how his death inspired his religious mother to become a crusader for gay and lesbian teens, into a made-for-TV movie. David Permut (Face/Off), Daniel Sladek (Tale of the Mummy), and Chris Taafe have signed on as executive producers for the project, tentatively titled Prayers, and out screenwriter Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality) will write the screenplay.

Actress Susan Sarandon had originally planned to be an executive producer and possibly a star of the film, which was attached at one point to NBC, but she and the producers parted ways.
