Variety columnist Army Archerd reports that DreamWorks's Walter Parkes flew to Chicago Tuesday to meet with Stephen Sondheim about a film version of Sondheim's musical Sweeney Todd. Sondheim is in Chicago preparing for the regional opening of his latest Broadway-bound show, Bounce. Sweeney Todd isn't the only musical in the works for DreamWorks; Parkes and Steven Spielberg have approved a stage musical version of their film Catch Me If You Can, which will be adapted by smooching Tony winners Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Hairspray).
