The stylish, sensational, and highly popular makeover television show, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, starring five gay guys and a rotating selection of straight-male makeover candidates, has seen its ratings decline by 40% compared with those of a year ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bravo, the network that created the reality show, believes that despite the low ratings for their new episodes, Queer Eye has already put the network on the map and has given the network new opportunities to present other Bravo originals.
The show, which broke Bravo ratings records during its first season, began to sink not long after its second season began. Competition with other television networks such as TBS's rebroadcasts of Sex in the City and FX's Nip/Tuck has also come into play.
Bravo is currently exploring ways to make over the makeover show. "Queer Eye does not need a facelift," Bravo president Lauren Zalaznick said to the Reporter. "Maybe a little Botox."
