GEORGE CLOONEY X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

- Up in the Air: The National Board for Review just named George Clooney’s latest flick the best movie of the year. Here, he plays a man who travels the country firing people, never making a connection, until a young protégée (Camp and Twilight scene-stealer Anna Kendrick) and a romantic interest (The Departed’s Vera Farmiga) force him out of his shell.

ROBERT DE NIRO X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

- Everybody’s Fine:Getting mixed reviews but sure to draw some attention is Everybody’s Fine, the holiday weepie starring Robert De Niro as a man trying to make good with his kids at the holidays. They are played by Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, and Prop. 8 rally staple Drew Barrymore.

- Brothers: One thing is for sure — there’s a whole lot of
pretty in this film. Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Tobey Maguire
star in this war drama about a woman torn between her husband (who is
presumed dead) and his brother.  The film is also getting mixed reviews, but
Maguire is said to be pitch-perfect. Watch the trailer below:

SHOCK VALUE 2 TIMBALAND X300 | ADVOCATE.COM

- Shock Value IIby Timbaland: For his third solo release, Timbo teams ups with the usual (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado) and the surprising (Chris Daughtry, Nickelback, and Miley Cyrus). We must admit, when something ain't broke it sure doesn't need fixin': "Morning After Dark," Timbo's collaboration with Nelly Furtado, which previously produced the undeniably catchy "Promiscuous" and the haunting "Say It Right," is a winner. Watch the "Morning After Dark" video below.

- There are very few notable albums coming out this week (the music industry spent all its energy on recent releases by Adam Lambert, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Susan Boyle), or concerts planned, for that matter. In you're in New York City, though, lady-killer John Mayer plays Madison Square Garden December 11. He's an unpredictable one, so you may not hear hits like "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "Daughters," though he'll probably make those having-an-orgasm-while-strumming-the-guitar-faces either way.

BETTER OFF TED SEASON NE DVD X300 | ADVOCATE.COM

- Better Off Ted, season 1: Portia de Rossi’s well-reviewed but underrated ABC sitcom debuts on DVD just before the launch of the show’s second season. Mrs. DeGeneres’s other half is said to steal the show as Veronica Palmer, the head of an unscrupulous technology company that works its employees like slaves.

TEMINATOR SALVATION X300 DVD | ADVOCATE.COM

- Terminator Salvation: Even if you can get past the fact that Christian Bale all but ended any goodwill that his stellar résumé has mustered over the years, this movie still doesn’t live up to even the franchise's third, ill-fated entry from a few years back. The stunts are cool, and Sam Worthington is sure to be a big star, but as story lines go, this is no Chris Nolan’s Batman ... or even director McG’s own Charlie’s Angels. If you're having a hard time remembering Bale's ballistic rant on the set of this flick that made the rounds on YouTube, check out the sound below:
