About Face Theatre, a Chicago theater company focused on plays that deal with gender and sexual identity, will open its 2014-15 season with Methtacular! — out writer-performer Steven Strafford's one-man account of surviving three years as a sex-crazed crystal meth addict in Chicago.

Directed by Adam Fitzgerald, the Chicago premiere begins performances August 21 and runs through September 28 at Theater Wit.

"After playing to sold-out crowds and rave reviews in New York, Cincinnati, and Portland, this unique piece of theater is finally coming home to Chicago, where it was born and bred," says About Face artistic director Andrew Volkoff. "Crystal meth addiction has been a serious national problem for years in the gay community, and especially here in the Midwest. A talented artist and brilliant storyteller, Steven shines a light on addiction that is at once funny and thought-provoking, turning his journey down the rabbit hole into a compelling and comedic evening. Virtuosic and soulbaringly honest, Methtacular! is a play that audiences won't soon forget."

The Advocate included Methtacular! on its list of the best LGBT-inclusive New York theater of 2012, writing that Strafford "elevated familiar druggie anecdotes with musical direction by The Rosie O'Donnell Show's John McDaniel, a love for '80s sitcoms, game show interludes, and sharp one-liners like 'Tuesday plus meth equals Friday.'"

About Face recently kicked off its Pride Performance Series with partners Michael Urie and Ryan Spahn in a reading of The Last Sunday in June by out playwright Jonathan Tolins.
