There has been a predictable chorus of whining from conservative groups about Coca-Cola's Super Bowl ad, which featured the song "America the Beautiful" in multiple languages, and also depicted a gay family. Tea Party enthusiast Michael Leahy was astonished that a "deeply Christian patriotic anthem" would include a gay couple.

Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert couldn't agree more. "I mean, if the woman who wrote the song, Katherine Lee Bates, saw this ad, she would be disgusted," said Colbert on his eponymous Report Monday. "And so would her life partner, Katherine Coman, with whom she lived for 25 years in what was then referred to as a Boston marriage."
