Get Fit for the New Year: 11 Great New Workout DVDS

The Insanity Workout: One of the most popular fitness workouts in the country is led by Shaun T, the celebrity trainer who has gotten half of Hollywood in shape—and who came out as gay in 2012. He's got a series of TV workouts that fans swear by (Hip Hop Abs, was No. 1 fitness program on TV for a time while Shaun T's Fit Kids Club, offered one of the earliest workout series designed specifically for kids ages 7 and up. But Insanity is the extreme workout DVD/lifestyle combo everyone is talking about now. This 60-day total body conditioning program contains 10 different workouts (cardio, balance, plyometrics, strength, etc.) along with a nutrition plan, workout calendar, and free online-support from fitness experts and other Insanity users. Using metabolic training method, Michaels' workouts burn more fat than cardio or weight training alone and she says the calorie burn continues for over half a day. Canyon Ranch: Yoga for Strength & Energy (Acacia): If you want a spa experience in your home, this DVD will help you recreate the famed Canyon Ranch's yoga classes. In this DVD filmed at the flagship Tucson, Arizona resort, Canyon Ranch fitness instructor Evette breeze through two 20-minute yoga workouts as well as an 11-minute soothing cool-down. There's also recipe booklet from the resorts and three bonus segments on eating for energy, making healthy lifestyle changes, and how to improve your sleep. Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Yoga Workout Collection (Acacia): Consider this DVD set the perfect two-fer. It offers up Body by Bethany, in which the Real Housewife turned women's health expert is joined by celebrity trainer Kristin McGee for a 40-minute ab-blasting yoga program, a 10-minute strength training workout, and 5-minute booty blast. Dr. Lisa: Yoga Blast (Acacia): Dr. Lisa Masterson, the sexy physician slash cohost of the Emmy-winning daytime TV show, The Doctors, offers up three 20-minute low-impact yoga workouts anyone can do in this DVD. Masterson, who is on staff at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, is a sight to behold so even if you aren't looking for total-body yoga (think strength, flexibility, and cardio), lesbian viewers might want to tune in anyway. Warriors 4: The Experts of Self Defense: Krav Maga, Kapap, Close Combat, Pro Self Defense and Sambo (Bayview): Think workout DVDs have too much spandex and estrogen? Try Warriors 4, a DVD aimed at teaching you self-defense techniques like Krav Maga. Trust us, you can work up a sweat learning defensive moves from Europes top experts in self-defense and though one of the experts is female, this is definitely not Jane Fonda's type of workout. (Amazon.com)


Brooke Burke Body: Sexy Abs
and 30-Day Slim Down (Sony): Fans of Dancing With the Stars can dive into these two challenging new workout DVDs, each with easy to follow moves meant to burn fat, tone muscles, and make you sweat. Both DVDs also come with Burke's favorite smoothie recipes. Sexy Abs has 16 core excercises that Burke swears by herself, while the 30-Day Slim Down is a combo cardio and toning workout meant to transform your body in just 30 minutes a day. Shiva Rea: Daily Energy Collection (Acacia): There are probably few yoga workout masters more famous these days than Shiva Rea. In this box set, you get 14 different 20-minute Vinyassa Flow yoga workouts, all focused around gaining energy. There are slow-paced "flows" for relaxation, energizing ones to rev you up. Even better, there are both beginner and intermediate routines so you can grow with the workout as well.
