The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced last week that the District of Columbia will receive $10.5 million for the district's Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS program, The Washington Post reports. The grants are awarded to communities across the country each year according to a formula based on population, income levels, poverty rates, and age of housing stock. In addition to the HOPWA grant, D.C. will receive $23.2 million in Community Development Block grants, $7.8 million in Home Investment Partnership funds, and $828,000 in Emergency Shelter Grants.
