German condom manufacturer Condomi is offering gay and straight university students in the United Kingdom a unique chance to participate in a three-semester study of condom use. The company will pay the students $150 per semester to use Condomi condoms and report on their "ease of use and pleasure," The New York Times reports. The company hopes to gain insight into why condom use isn't higher among its target consumer group, sexually active people ages 16 to 35, despite an enormous amount of scientific evidence showing that condoms protect against the spread of HIV and most sexually transmitted diseases. "We are trying to find out why people don't like using condoms and, in the process, promote safer sex," said Victoria Wells, British marketing manager for Condomi.
