University of Arizona researchers have received a grant of nearly $1 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for a substance abuse and HIV prevention project in South Tucson, Ariz. The project aims to increase awareness of drug and alcohol abuse and HIV, including how they are linked, said lead researcher Andrea Romero. The three-year study is also backed by a partnership between the university, the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, and the city of South Tucson.
