Actress Cynthia
Nixon, a Susan G. Komen ambassador, joined over 40,000
participants on Sunday in the organization's 19th annual
Race for the Cure.

The 5K race was
held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and raised
$4.9 million for breast cancer research and health
programs.

Nixon, along
with the event’s founder, Nancy G. Brinker, led
more than 3,500 breast cancer survivors in a Parade of
Pink during the pre-race ceremony.

Nixon,
who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, went into
remission after six and a half weeks of radiation.

"Whether you had
cancer or are close to somebody who's had it, you want
to do something," Nixon told The
Washington Post. "You want to show your love
and support." (The Advocate)
