Sigur Rós wins Shortlist Prize
At a ceremony held Monday at Hollywood's Knitting Factory, Iceland's Sigur Rós bested four nominees for Virgin Megastore's first annual Shortlist Prize. The Shortlist Prize, worth $10,000, is restricted to bands with sales of fewer than 500,000 copies at nomination time, a move that the Los Angeles Times griped could be as limiting as those of the mercenary Grammys. Other nominees were PJ Harvey, Ryan Adams and the Dandy Warhols, French electronica duo Air, virtual hip-hoppers Gorillaz, R&B artists Bilal and Nikka Costa, and rappers Talib Kweli and Jay Dee.
