An unofficial LGBT student group at the Mormon-affiliated Brigham Young University has released a nine-minute video for the It Gets Better Project.
The video from Understanding Same-Gender Attraction is quite somber, but it features several LGBT students talking about their experiences in learning about their sexual orientation and gender identity as well as being a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As the students say, 74% of BYU's LGBT students have contemplated suicide, and the school is constantly ranked as one of the least LGBT-friendly schools in the U.S. This may be because the university's honor code still mandates that students remain chaste during their academic career and says that "homosexual behavior is inappropriate and violates the Honor Code. Homosexual behavior includes not only sexual relations between members of the same sex, but all forms of physical intimacy that give expression to homosexual feelings."
