Many LGBT people think the fight for equality in the military was won with the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," but that's not true for transgender people, who are still barred from serving as the gender they identify as. A web documentary called Transmilitary, spearheaded by former OutServe/SLDN executives Allyson Robinson and Zeke Stokes, hopes to shed light on the transgender military experience and apply pressure on the government to end the ban (nations like the United Kingdom have allowed openly transgender people to serve for years). In the film, trans servicemembers — some anonymous, some not — share their harrowing stories.
