Some of the hottest stars from film, television, fashion, and music turned out on Saturday night for the sixth annual Logo NewNowNext Awards at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards show has a long-standing reputation for recognizing up-and-coming talent in the entertainment industry, in addition to recognizing continuing efforts of superstars who maintain the LGBT stamp of approval.

This year the plum carpet played host to stars from across the entertainment industry including Dance Mom Abby Lee Miller, New Normal star Andrew Rannells, and Glee star Naya Rivera.

The Advocate spoke with TV personality Ross Mathews, whose latest book, Man Up: Tales of My Delusional Self-Confidence, hits shelves next month. "The book is for anyone that has ever felt different from anyone else," Mathews said.

Malibu Country star Jai Rodriguez tapped into the broader cultural conversation around marriage equality. "My Facebook picture still has the red equals sign," sais Rodriguez. "Until everyone can have marriage equality it just might stay that way."

The show's energetic opening grabbed everyone's attention, as RuPaul's Drag Race contestants Manila Luzon, Honey Mahogany, Alyssa Edwards, Serena Cha Cha, Vivienne Pinay, and Coco Montrese took the stage. The indie-pop out-twin-sister duo Tegan and Sara performed their smash hit "Closer," from their latest chart-topping album, Heartthrob. Pop diva Ke$ha took the stage too.

Some exciting wins came for Andrew Rannells, who won the Next Mega-Star Award; for ABC's Scandal, which earned the award for TV You Betta Watch; and Chelsea Handler, who won the Host With the Most Award.

After the fan-voted awards were handed out, eight-time Grammy-winner Fergie was honored with the Always Next, Forever Now Award for her philanthropic efforts surrounding HIV/AIDS. “I’ve had so many friends who have been affected by this disease, and it’s a very near and dear cause to my heart,” Fergie said as she accepted the award.

Among other non-fan-voted awards, Kylie Minogue was named Dance Floor Hero, and Selena Gomez accepted the Triple Play Award for her success in television, film, and music.

The show airs tonight at 10 Eastern/9 Central on Logo, with a simulcast on LogoTV.com.
