The disappointed cohost of The View auditioned for Broadway's Annie nine times.
Sorry, little girls!
Speaking to Theatermania for their "I Hope I Get It: Stories From the Audition Room" series, Rosie O'Donnell revealed that she auditioned nine times and was pretty sure she had landed the role of boozy orphanage matron Miss Hannigan in the 2012 Broadway revival of Annie.
Much to her disappointment, the part ultimately went to Tony winner Katie Finneran, who was later replaced by Glee's Jane Lynch. The cohost of The View jokes that she wants to start a petition to "get more actors like Rosie who maybe aren't on key but have a lot of enthusiasm for the genre."
Cameron Diaz plays Miss Hannigan in the new Annie remake, which is now in movie theaters.
O'Donnell's Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Seussical, and Grease.
