A history-making journey.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has gotten the documentary treatment, in a film that chronicled his journey from mayor to the presidential trail. The Mayor Pete-titled project examines the moments behind Buttigieg's history-making and headline-generating campaign, showing Buttigieg and husband, Chasten, speaking on how important Buttigieg's visibility was as well as how the candidate dealt with some of the lowest moments of his candidacy.

The documentary comes from the director of Boys State and will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

Buttigieg campaign hoped that he would be not only the youngest U.S. president but also the first out gay U.S. president. Along the way, he became the first out presidential candidate to earn primary delegates toward a major party's nomination proces, and the first to win the Iowa caucus by delegate count. After he ended his candidacy, Buttigieg threw his weight behind Joe Biden, and when Biden was elected, Buttigieg joined his transition team before becoming a history-making addition to his Cabinet.

"It's a leap going from being a mayor to being a presidential candidate," Buttigieg says in a voice-over. "But I realized that I had something to offer that was just different."

In addition to high moments, the trailer promises to delve into how Buttigieg handled criticism on the trail and what closed-door conversations looked like at the time. In particular, he was forced to have a reckoning with the relationship (or lack thereof) he had with Black residents of South Bend, Ind., the city of which he had been mayor.

Mayor Pete will release November 12 on Amazon Prime Video.
