Pat Robertson: If Your Kid Sees Gay Porn, a Pedophile's Behind It

Homophobic televangelist Pat Robertson says that if a teenage boy views gay porn on the internet, someone must be sending it to him and trying to seduce him.

On Wednesday's edition of The 700 Club, Robertson read a letter from a woman named Emma, who said, "I was doing my weekly technology checkup on my 13-year-old son's iPad computer when I noticed homosexual pornographic material in his search history. This has greatly shaken my family and my connection to God. How can we stop my son's homosexual interests?"

After saying that young boys are curious about many things, Robertson said, "I think what you need to do is to cut off that particular avenue that's coming into him, because somebody's trying to seduce your son, and they shouldn't be sending homosexual or any other kind of sexual material on the internet." He advised the mother "to find some technological way of cutting the cord on that one."

Robertson seems to not realize that an internet user can find gay porn or anything else with a simple web search, without anyone else being involved. And as one would expect given Robertson's history, his answer betrays his homophobia in addition to his technological cluelessness. He also promotes the idea that a person can be "turned" straight or gay, and that gay men prey on young people.

"The mother thinks she can 'stop' her son's 'homosexual interests,'" commented the Friendly Atheist blogger on Patheos. "She thinks she can turn him straight if he's gay. Robertson should've told her that's not possible. ... Instead, he told the mother to watch out for the creepy old man trying to molest her kid." This "horrible advice," the blogger added, is "exactly what you'd expect when you ask Pat Robertson a question about computers and homosexuality."
