The annual striptease benefitting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is back -- only this time it's virtual!
Due to the pandemic, Broadway Cares took its striptease fundraiser online for the first time with Broadway Bares: Zoom In, which streamed on Sunday, August 1, on BroadwayCares.org at 9:30 PM EST.
Though the stream was free, donations are welcome. Of course, every dollar raised helps those affected by HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and other chronic conditions receive food, medication, financial assistance, counseling, housing, and much more.
First created in 1992 by director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Watch our recent video interview with the acclaimed Mitchell HERE), the first year saw Mitchell and six of his friends dance atop a New York City bar to raise $8,000 for those impacted by HIV. Fast forward to last year, 2019 Broadway Bares: Take Off raised over $2,000,000.
Collectively, the 29 editions of Broadway Bares has raised over $21.2 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Sponsorship opportunities for each of the dancers, including virtual cocktails parties with performers during the show, are available at BroadwayCares.org.
Besides stripteases from past Bares events featuring the best of the best New York City dancers, viewers are also expected to see new performances as well as an apperance by special celebrity guests.
