7 Things That Are Everything This Week

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are both releasing albums this week. Wicked.

Lady Gaga, "Perfect Illusion" video

A woman who is capable of wearing many hats and often does, Lady Gaga's gone full grunge rock with "Perfect Illusion," the first single off of her upcoming album, Joanne. Now the video is out, getting a nice plug during Scream Queens' season premiere Tuesday, and this stripped down, raw, grungy Gaga is another of her incarnations that we can't get enough of. Clad in a fitted tee and teeny-tiny cutoffs, the bi star growls, writhes, rants, and crowd-surfs with unbridled passion. The whole look and sound transport us to the Seattle rock scene circa '90, and we're pretty sure that's just what Gaga's going for. We could really watch her twirl this mike all day.

Idina Menzel, Idina; Kristin Chenoweth, The Art of Elegance

The original stars of Wicked, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, both released albums today. Chenoweth's The Art of Elegance finds her interpreting Great American Songbook tunes including George and Ira Gershwin's "I've Got a Crush on You" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me," Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer's "Skylark," and Rodgers and Hart's "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered." Out saxophonist Dave Koz guests on a couple of tracks. And you can count on Chenoweth to perform some of these standards when she begins a concert engagement on Broadway in November. Menzel's Idina, which she describes as her most personal, introspective album ever, finds her working with modern songwriters such as Matt Morris, Lindy Robbins, Shelly Peiken, Ferras, and Wrabel. Some songs are informed by events in Menzel's life, including her 2014 divorce from Taye Diggs. But she has found love again; just today she announced her engagement to actor Aaron Lohr.
