A pilgrimage to Rome on Saturday marked the first time an LGBTQ+ group has been included in the Catholic Church's Jubilee.
During a speech last week, Italy's most influential cardinal, Camillo Ruini (pictured), said that giving full legal recognition to unmarried couples would represent an "eclipsing of the nature and value of a family and a very grave harm to the Italian people."
Potential successors come from all over the world and range from moderate to deeply conservative on LGBTQ+ issues.
