"Christian Coalition 2.0" Hits Florida

Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition, formalized plans last week to open an affiliate of his new Faith and Freedom Coalition in Florida, with the goal of energizing social conservatives and financing Republican state campaigns.

The new coalition, which was created last weekend, plans to organize conservative voters and pour cash into high-profile races such as the Republican senate primary between Governor Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio, former speaker of the Florida house of representatives, according to the News Service of Florida .

“Florida is the largest of a half-dozen states where the Faith and Freedom Coalition now has chapters, which some have dubbed a 2.0 version of the Christian Coalition, intended to draw younger, Internet-savvy social conservatives,” reported the News Service of Florida.

Reed serves as voluntary chairman of the new national coalition, which he announced in June. The Florida chapter is led by Bill Stephens, executive director of the state’s Christian Coalition.

Reed was hired by Pat Robertson two decades ago to serve as the first executive director of the Christian Coalition. He later became a lobbyist, and was connected to the Jack Abramoff scandal.

Obviously this is a move of desperation. I don't imagine they have a terribly difficult job "hitting" Florida. Maybe the planners for the white party should move it to So Cal. It really is petty to talk about Ralph Reed and his looks, he looks quite alright to me. Beauty and distinction has nothing to do looking like a 14 year-old blond twink when you're 50. That seems to be the ideal for a lot of people in the gay community...real men age. We would have better success being politically mobile rather than being catty and scratching out each other's eyeballs

Age has not been kind to Ralph. He used to look like Dorian Gray, and now he looks like the portrait.

I would think it would be hard to find young people that they can still sell their ideas to, but maybe in Florida.

Ralph Reed is a crook who couldn't get elected on his own because of his shady dealings. Not exactly moral or a leader of Christian principles.

We need to hire private investigators and research the hell out of these Christian Coalition people. EVERYONE has skeletons in their closet, and you know damn well that these sleazy Christian slimeballs have some extra-nasty dirt in their putrid past. Then, once the dirt is found, we need to use it to DESTROY them. No, not blackmail, no negotiations - just an outright destroying of their lives. Hurt them to the point they'll never be able to raise their head in public again. THEN - when the next crop steps up to take their place, we do it to them, too. And so on, and so on, until we run out of Christian slimeballs.

I won't underestimate these bigots and the GLBT community better not either. NOW is the time to start battling these people, although given the GLBT's penchant for apathy, inaction, and general lack of leadership/organizing skills, I doubt anyone will do anything to combat these folks until 5 days before an election.

Hmm... I wonder if Reed was the mystery gay man that Pat Robertson hired onto his team 20 years ago.
