3. MUSIC: Dolly Parton, Blue Smoke
Here she comes again, sounding better than a body has a right to. Miss Dolly releases her 42nd studio album, Blue Smoke, a mix of originals and covers, traditional country and smooth pop. Over the course of the album, Parton gives a gospel treatment Bon Jovi’s “Lay Your Hands on Me,” brings a woman’s viewpoint to the Bob Dylan classic “Don’t Think Twice,” and creates a framing story for the venerable ballad “Banks of the Ohio.” Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson contribute guest vocals. Blue Smoke is available Tuesday, but check Parton’s website for pre-order deals that will net you T-shirts, mugs, and other goodies along with the album. Dolly, we will always love you! – Trudy Ring
