...U.N. Millennium Promise. This group is committed to helping the world's poorest people--the 1 billion people who live on less than a dollar a day--lift themselves out of extreme poverty. Their goal is to end hunger by 2025, and what they are doing around the globe is amazing. They have a huge infrastructure of local governments and a lot of individuals and companies that have gone around the world and set up model villages to use a lot of their own resources to see how they can come to conclusions to end poverty. If we end poverty, we end hunger, and we end a lot of the other major crises going on in the world. MillenniumPromise.org
...Chefs for Humanity. When the tsunami hit in 2004, I got really motivated by lot of great charities that went out into the field for emergency feeding relief and really helped to restore a lot of these villages that were wiped out from natural disasters. I started Chefs for Humanity because I felt there is definitely a place for culinary professionals to go into disaster-stricken areas to help people. When Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in Mississippi and New Orleans, we went in. We were feeding 3,000-5,000 people a day. People can volunteer. It is a collaboration. That is how we are going to end poverty. ChefsForHumanity.org
...My Amazon Kindle. My partner, Jennifer, got it for me for Christmas last year, and I thought, I'm going to really miss the paperback. I still get the paperbacks to support the bookstore, but I like the Kindle because you can hold many, many books on it. Sometimes I'm reading a couple of different books at once, and you can archive and go back to a book you really liked and read it again. You don't have books all over the house, which drove Jennifer crazy, because there were books in every nook and cranny of our house. Amazon.com/Kindle
...Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 Bag. It is great for traveling. It's not small like a purse or big like a carry-on. I carry all my little extras, like my Kindle, my phone, my cords, my bag of toiletries, an extra pair of socks, and snacks. It's one of those timeless pieces that will last forever--and it fits under the seat. LouisVuitton.com
...Iron Chef Supreme Cuisine Video Game for wii. As one of the Iron Chefs, I have an avatar! You can go on and play against one of us. It is such a great, great game, and you are actually cooking against each other. So there is this chopping action, slicing action, sauteing action--you really are cooking for time. ...Pet Adoption. We have our little chihuahua, Harlow, that we adopted. I think it absolutely enriches your life to know you rescued a pet before it was euthanized. It is always rewarding for the person and for the pet.
